Skating Lessons / Clinics

The Chavez Center is the place to be to learn to skate, play hockey, or sharpen your skills on the ice.

All classes are 30 minutes of group instruction with an Ice Arena staff instructor. All classes include admission into the Community Center the day of classes only, skate rental and admission to Public Skate. Please check our WEBSITE and the Ice Arena Schedule for specific times and dates for classes offered. Or call 955-4031.

All drop-in programs will cost $5.50/$6.50 plus $3.00 equipment rental (if necessary). Admission is included in this fee.

Private Lessons

We have a wide variety of qualified Staff Instructors who are available for private lessons for skaters at all skill levels. For more information contact the Ice Skate Office at 955-4031.

Adult Hockey League Schedule and Fees

 

 

Pro Shop

We have a full service skate shop which includes sharpening, blade mounting and boot stretching. Check with one of our qualified staff members for all the services available for your equipment needs at 955-4033.

The GCCC is now offering Sani Sport Gear Cleaning to anyone who needs to clean sports equipment, reduce bacteria and remove terrible odors from protective equipment that can’t be washed in a traditional washing machine. for more information call 955-4033.

Skate Rental $3.00

Don’t own your own skates? The Chavez Center Skate Shop has 400 pairs of skates for you to rent. $3.00 per pair, per session. Figure, hockey, and recreational skates are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Skate Sharpening & Repair

Need your skates sharpened? Our skilled staff can do that for you! Same day sharpening $10, overnight $7.50. See rink staff for skate repair and pricing. Payment must be made prior to all work being performed.

Ice Skating Parties

Have the “COOLEST” party in town. Skating parties are different, fun and a great way to include a healthy “Activity” with your family or friends!

Group skating information

Youth Groups & Field Trips

  • Groups must schedule their facility visit at least two weeks in advance to ensure space and proper staffing. Call 955-4024 to make your reservation.
  • Youth groups must have sufficient adult supervision as follows:
    • 3-5 years of age= one adult per three children,
    • 6-10 years of age= one adult per six children,
    • 11-17 years of age=one adult per ten participants.
  • Skate rental fee charged to all participants.
  • Adult supervisors must be in the immediate area with their group at all times, including being on the ice or the pool.

Instructors for hire

If you would like to hire a professional skating instructor to enhance your skating enjoyment please contact the instructors directly to confirm availability and fees. Instructor fees must be paid separately.

Suggested Skating Clothing for safety and comfort: Some sort of helmet or hat, long sleeve shirt or jacket, gloves, long pants and TALL SOCKS.

Public Skating Rules and Regulations

  • Obey rink attendants and staff at all times
  • Be courteous, safe, and responsible
  • Stay on rubber flooring when wearing skates. DO NOT walk on the cement floors/stairs.
  • Skate under control: Excessive speed, rough housing, fighting, tag, keep away and chain skating are NOT allowed.
  • Please see rink attendant for skater training aids
  • Do not pick up or carry your child while skating
  • Skate in the direction of flow with other skaters; avoid sitting, lying or sliding on the ice.
  • No food or drinks allowed on the ice
  • No headsets, cell phones or any hand held electronic device allowed on the ice
  • Do not wear shoes on the ice, ice skates only
  • Center ice freestyle circle is for advanced skaters only
  • Do not bring items on the ice that may interfere with skater safety (No hockey sticks or pucks during public or group sessions)
  • Do not sit on the boards
  • Do not block the ice rink doorways, use caution when exiting or entering the ice surface.
  • Do not intentionally chip or damage the ice with your skates
  • Avoid foul or abusive language
  • Please return your skates to the skate shop when finished
