Skating Lessons / Clinics

The Chavez Center is the place to be to learn to skate, play hockey, or sharpen your skills on the ice.

All classes are 30 minutes of group instruction with an Ice Arena staff instructor. All classes include admission into the Community Center the day of classes only, skate rental and admission to Public Skate. Please check our WEBSITE and the Ice Arena Schedule for specific times and dates for classes offered. Or call 955-4031.

All drop-in programs will cost $6.00 plus $3.00 equipment rental (if necessary). Admission is included in this fee.

Private Lessons

We have a wide variety of qualified Staff Instructors who are available for private lessons for skaters at all skill levels. For more information contact the Ice Skate Office at 955-4031.

Pro Shop

We have a full service skate shop which includes sharpening, blade mounting and boot stretching. Check with one of our qualified staff members for all the services available for your equipment needs. Call 955-4033.

Skate Rental $3.00

Don’t own your own skates? The Chavez Center Skate Shop has 400 pairs of skates for you to rent. $3.00 per pair, per session. Figure, hockey, and recreational skates are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Skate Sharpening & Repair

Need your skates sharpened? Our skilled staff can do that for you! Same day sharpening $10, overnight $7.50. See rink staff for skate repair and pricing. Payment must be made prior to all work being performed.

Skating News

WE WILL BE CLOSED AUGUST 28-SEPTEMBER 6
We will close our doors to the public for ten days this year starting on Saturday August 28th 2010. We will reopen on Tuesday September 7th. The closure will allow GCCC Staff to complete essential annual maintenance tasks. During the closure GCCC memberships will be honored at the Ft. Marcy Complex and Salvador Perez Pool.

Final Learn to Skate Class
The final Learn to Skate Session will be held August 21 as a result of the GCCC annual closure which starts on August 28th.  You can maintain the learning curve by signing up for the next Learn to Skate cycle which begins on September 11, 2010.

Join Us for Speed Skating!
Dedicated speed skating sessions continue at the GCCC Ice Arena.  Currently, two weekly short track sessions are scheduled.  Each session requires a $6.00 drop-in fee; the fee covers skate rental and instruction. Helmets must be worn by skaters.  Skaters may rent a GCCC helmet for an additional $3.00. Session times:   Thursday- 6:00pm to 7:30pm   Sunday-11:45am-1:00pm
