Court One and Racquetball Open Recreation

Multi-use of Court One is available for drop-in recreation to members and the general public during most GCCC building hours. Sports equipment can be checked-out for use in the gymnasium areas by exchanging an ID, set of keys, or other such item for a deposit in order to guarantee the return of equipment. Come enjoy shooting hoops, bumping volleyballs, jumping rope, break dancing, racquetball, handball, or just passing a football with your friends and family.

Court Two & Court Three

The Recreation Division sponsors many recreational leagues and tournaments year round utilizing the GCCC basketball courts. The Recreation Division offers leagues, clinics, camps, tournaments and activities in basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, cheerleading, and other great recreational sports for children, youth, adults, seniors and families. Please check the website chavezcenter.com for current listings. Court Two is often available for rental to groups wanting a full-court for their own private use. (see gym rental section).

Leagues

Youth Basketball League
Fee: $300 per team

This league will bring together boys and girls grades 4 through 6, ages 10 - 12 through the game of basketball. Teams or individual players may register beginning May 1, 2010.

  • Format: League season; June-July 2010 League is 10 game schedule including a single elimination tournament. Games will be held late weekday afternoons.
  • Registration: May 1 - June 3, 2010
    Teams minimum of 10 players with a maximum of 15 players.

Girls Summer Basketball League
Fee: $300 per team

Girls Only! This league is for Middle School and High School girls. Girls get your team together today.

  • Format: League season; June-July 2010 League is 10 game schedule including a single elimination tournament.
  • Registration: May 3 - June 4, 2010
    Teams minimum of 10 players with a maximum of 15 players.

Lunch Time Leagues
Fast food vs. Physical activity? We can help with Lunch Time Sports Leagues. The leagues are for adults at noon Monday through Friday open to all residents.

Racquetball Leagues
Fee: $30

Get involved in the Genoveva Chavez Community Center Racquetball Leagues. Format: The league is available for beginner, intermediate, and advanced players. League is a 10 game season with a single double tournament.

  • Dates & Times: TBA
    Summer season: Begins July 2010
    Fall season: Begins September 2010

Pee Wee Basketball League
Fee: $45 per child

This league is designed as a developmental league with the little ones in mind, (1st through 3rd grades 2010/2011 school year).

  • Format: Games will be played on adjustable goals lowered to 8ft. and using a junior sized basketball (27.5”). Games will be played on Saturday mornings at 9:00am. The season is scheduled to begin September 2010 with a 8 game schedule and a single elimination tournament.
  • Registration: Begins August 2010 and closes September 2010
    Team sponsorship is available.

Senior Sports and Activities
Looking for some recreation time? We have the perfect place for you! Come try the great sports and recreation activities that we have to offer! 8:45am - 11:45am.

  • Basketball: Monday
  • Badminton: Tuesday and Thursday
  • Pickelball: Wednesday

Teen Court
No judge, no jury, just fun and challenging. A basketball court designed for teens ages 13-18. Santa Fe’s only teen basketball court. Each Saturday *4:00pm - 7:45pm.

Basketball 5 on 5 Challenge Court
Looking to just play and not be in a league? Join us Tuesday and Thursday from *6:00pm - 9:45pm. (Seasonal: October - February and June - August)

Soccer 5 on 5 Indoor Challenge Court
Running, kicking, scoring and having fun is all that makes our indoor soccer court a great place to hang out! Come by every Friday night from *5:00pm - 7:45pm for some great 5 on 5 soccer games. (Seasonal: December - April)

Volleyball Challenge Court
Looking to get some extra practice or just a competitive game of volleyball with friends or family? You can have the opportunity every Sunday from 2:00pm - to 5:00pm on our volleyball challenge court. (Seasonal: September - February and June - August)

Racquetball and Handball Courts - Drop In and Reservations
Know the game? Need a great workout? The Chavez Center has two racquetball courts to give you the space to bang the walls and get your daily exercise. We now have racquetball gear so you have no excuse if you leave your racquet at home! For non-members $2 per hour per reservation. No fee for members. Call 955-4000, press #7 to book a court.

Badminton
Yes! Badminton for adults interested in learning more about this exciting game. Our badminton court is open Tuesday and Thursday from 8:45am - 11:45am. Come play a fun and challenging game. It’s the perfect way to kick off a great week.

 

Please Note: Challenge Courts and Drop-In programs fill on a first-come, first-serve basis. Racquetball Drop-In requires reservations.

Gymnasium News


WE WILL BE CLOSED AUGUST 28-SEPTEMBER 6
We will close our doors to the public for ten days this year starting on Saturday August 28th 2010. We will reopen on Tuesday September 7th. The closure will allow GCCC Staff to complete essential annual maintenance tasks. During the closure GCCC memberships will be honored at the Ft. Marcy Complex and Salvador Perez Pool.  [More >>]
